Birthday Marathon Update: One Day To Go!

Thursday evening was my last training stroll before Saturday’s big event.

This time tomorrow I’ll be walking around in circles until I reach 42 klms.

I have no idea how many kilometres I’ve walked in the last six months, but it’d be more than I’ve ever done in my life.

I’ve walked early mornings, late at night, in the heat and snow… well, not the snow, but a couple of times in the rain (which was rather refreshing).

I’ve bumped into a lot of people on my outings, been swooped by dozens of bats and patted several dogs.

Apart from losing a stack of weight, my feet are a bit tender, sore in places, there’s a lump on my left toe, a blood blister under the nail of my right big toe and occasionally a sharp stabbing pain on the top of my right foot.  Still, mustn’t grumble, could be worse I suppose.

There’s no twinge-y knees, ankles are rock solid and my left hip no longer clicks anymore, thanks to the excellent work of John my chiropractor.

On the bright side, I didn’t get one of the many ‘bugs’ which have been dropping people all over town (although I did wake up with a throat full of nails for a few days last week).  It’s going to be tough enough walking a marathon while feeling good, I could only imagine how horrible it would be to attempt while suffering from a cold or a dose of the squirts.

On the bright side, all the hard yards will be done tomorrow afternoon when I cross the start finish line.

Or, possibly not.

I can’t picture my life without my daily stroll now.

Except from now on they’ll be a lot more relaxed, and may include a several stops to look at the fish from the seawall, or just sit and humming ‘Sitting on the Dock of the Bay’ while watching the tide and ships roll in and out.

Anyway, kick off tomorrow is at 8am, if you’re not able to pop down in person, then I’ll be posting regularly on the day via Facebook.

Enjoy the show!
